My name is Josh Borgerding and I'm a teacher at Garber High School. I currently teach Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus. I am new to the school, but have been living in the area for several years now. In my personal life, I am very active. I run with my dog, play soccer, coach soccer, build furniture, and try to keep my house clean. All of this is just so that I can keep my head about me when I'm teaching. Some of the activities I do in my personal life are for my physical health, some are for my mental health, but they all keep me very busy and that's what I like.

Running
I started running in December 2007. Things hadn't gone how I expected them to after getting out of college which lead to a lot of frustration and unhealthy choices. So one morning I got up, ran in one direction for as far as I could until I got tired, and then turned around and ran back home. It was so relaxing and refreshing that I've now become a fairly avid runner. To date, I've completed 5 marathons, 13 half-marathons, 1 half-Ironman, and countless other races.
I personally think running is the best, and easiest solution to getting in shape. Some people seem really concerned or confused about how far, and how fast they should run. I always tell them "just run, don't think about it, just run". The more people think about it and stress about it, the less relaxing and the less enjoyable it becomes. |
Woodworking
Woodworking has also been an important part of my life as well. I use woodworking as an artistic outlet. I've found that woodworking is really Geometry with tools; understanding how to take different shapes and connect them together to achieve a useful product. My long-term goal is to have built almost every piece of furniture in my house. Projects that I've completed so far include a tv stand, coffee table, DVD shelves, bed frame, kitchen table, corner desk, keepsake box, 2 hall tables, bedside table, and wrap-around benches. I'm currently working on finishing two dressers for my fiancé and I.

Digital Media
I am exploring the idea of teaching a digital media class next year. This class would examine elements of different types of digital media, such as digital photography, video editing, website development, blogging, etc. I believe that a lot of students would have fun with this class, and find it very beneficial given today's "media driven" world. However, there are a lot of pieces of the puzzle that need to be put in place before I'm ready for this class.
